Automation Technicians Manager

Location: New Albany, Indiana

Samtec is looking for an ambitious individual interested in exploring a new senior-level career opportunity. This person will be responsible for managing Samtec's growing Automation Technicians Group. Samtec has invested nearly $30M in state-of-the-art automation facilities in both the U.S. and Costa Rica. These facilities house over 200 Samtec custom designed machines that utilize a variety of electrical controls with pneumatics, servos and steppers. A person in this specialized role will have a high level of exposure to the senior management team as he/she implements change and improvement in all facets of our technician's operations. The person successful in this role can expect future opportunities for growth in the area of design as well as global responsibility for our technicians and equipment in Costa Rica. The Automation Technicians Manager will directly impact company profits by improving product quality, increasing up-time/productivity, and reducing scrap.

OVERALL OBJECTIVE:

Act as liaison between the Design Engineering Group and the Automation Technicians Group when there are machine challenges to resolve. Execute role as Manager and as Master Technician by being a reliable and effective leader and resource on the shop floor.

PERFORMANCE TASKS (Over the course of the first 12 months):

Immediately begin to tackle the technical challenges of Samtec custom designed automation equipment

Utilize experience with pneumatic equipment and machinist background to:

  • Define root causes of machine/tooling/process issues
  • Develop a strategy for improvement of machines/tooling/processes

Draw on management experience to develop a team of 20 technicians:

  • Evaluate their technical performance and set time-specific goals for improvement
  • Ensure techs are executing operating procedures properly

MEASURES OF SUCCESS:

  • Time to close tech requests
  • Number of call backs after request closed
  • Machine up-time and assembly scrap

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with pneumatics, dies, design, machinist-type background
  • Prior management, production, and tooling experience
