Production Manager – Technical Products

Location: New Albany, Indiana

Samtec is searching for an ambitious individual capable of managing several work-centers within its fastest growing business unit – Tailored Operations Model 3(TOM 3). This person will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a $30M production center that is composed of High Speed Cable, Cable Extrusion, Discrete Wire, RF Cable, and Samtec AccliMate™ operations.

The person that is successful in this role will have an inquisitive and technical mind-set coupled with the natural ability to identify problems/inefficiencies with products, processes and equipment as well as guide the solutions to those problems. This is a highly-visible role that will be exposed to sales, customer service, engineering, and senior management. Once proven successful in the New Albany location, this person will have expanded growth opportunities for capacity planning to include our China, Costa Rica, and Penang facilities.

OBJECTIVE:

• Over the course of the first 12 months, develop a systematic approach for improving productivity and quality for the TOM 3 business unit.

PERFORMANCE TASKS:

  • Learn Samtec MRP system within first 30 days
  • Utilize technical ability to become educated on Samtec products and custom equipment within 6 months. Most equipment is built in-house or customized by Samtec and includes:
    • crimp applicators
    • automated soldering machines
    • laser cutters
    • extrusion line
    • semi-automatic cutters
  • Draw on management experience to develop a team of 30 operators and immediately begin to tackle:
    • "Process lockdown" – clearly defined work instructions and how they are to be followed
    • "Operator execution" – train operators on correct procedures as well as evaluate and develop their technical performance
  • Proactively plan capacity and lead continuous improvement efforts

MEASURES OF SUCCESS:

  • 90% on-time delivery
  • 95% delivery w/ 3 day window
  • Order defect rate under .5%

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Engineering or technical degree a plus
  • Working knowledge of 5S quality principles a plus
