Planting Trees around the lakes
On March 19th, six members of Boy Scout Troop 4025, planted 160 trees throughout the lake area adjacent to SAMTEC.
The variety of trees included, White Oak, Plum, Chokeberry, Elderberry, Hawthorne, Paw-Paw, Dogwood, Tulip Poplar, Hickory, and White Pine.
The Troop studied the area and determined the planting patterns based upon several factors, including soil, wildlife habitat, and drainage. The seedlings are generally 2 to 3 years old, and are not much taller than 3 feet. Installation techniques were studied and utilized to support the seedlings’ survival. The trees were purchased by Samtec through the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Tree Nursery Program. |
